Deputies: Murray man was smoking marijuana while driving

MURRAY, KY (KFVS) -

A Murray, Kentucky man was arrested on multiple drug charges after a traffic stop on Nov. 18.

Kardell Shelton, 37, was charged with no registration plate, no registration receipt, failure to produce insurance card, failure to wear seat belts, possession of marijuana, drug paraphernalia-buy/possession, DUI-first, trafficking in marijuana less than 8 ounces and promoting contraband first.

According to Graves County Sheriff Dewayne Redmon, around 9:22 p.m. a deputy pulled over a vehicle on Wayne Freeman Road for a moving violation.

During the stop, the deputy said he could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

Sheriff Redmon said Shelton was smoking marijuana while he was driving and gave the joint to the deputy.

He said standardized field sobriety tests were given and Shelton was arrested for DUI.

According to Sheriff Redmon, after searching Shelton, deputies found a clear bag with individually wrapped marijuana.

While at the Graves County Jail, Sheriff Redmon said the staff found drug paraphernalia on Shelton.
