US 45 opened after crash in White County, IL

WHITE COUNTY, IL (KFVS) -

Illinois State Police District 19 says troopers are investigating a traffic crash on US Route 45 in rural White County, Illinois near Circle R Fertilizer.

The crash happened around 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov 19 and involved two commercial vehicles.

According to the preliminary investigation, Darrell W. Terry II, 33, of Herrin, Ill., was driving a 2010 Isuzu truck eastbound on White County Road 2200N at the intersection with U.S. Route 45 in rural White County.

Police say he tried to cross U.S. Route 45 and was hit in the rear of the truck by a 2007 Peterbilt truck towing a MAC Semi-Dump trailer. The semi was driven by Jonathan P. Brown, 38, of Galatia, Ill.

After the impact, police say the truck and trailer overturned, blocking both lanes of U.S. Route 45.

According to police, Brown was airlifted from the scene and taken to an Evansville, Ind. hospital.

Terry was not injured.

Police say both lanes of U.S. Route 45 were closed for about 3.5 hours while the crash was investigated. They are now open.

Terry was cited for failure to yield at a stop intersection and Brown was cited for overweight on gross.
