Organizers hope display brings awareness to homelessness in Cape Girardeau

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

As temperatures in the Heartland drop below freezing, one group hopes people will think about the homeless who have nowhere to go to get warm.

The Community Caring Council set up this display inside the Cape West 14 Cine for the month.

It features the dismal clothing and food options many homeless must deal with on a daily basis.

Organizers say they hope to bring to light the number of homeless in Cape Girardeau County.

"We do have it," said Roy Jones with the Community Caring Council. "Even children that are in school have to find fellow classmates to let them stay in their home, and there are many, many people who would like to have a normal life."

Jones said his group estimates at any given time, Cape Girardeau County can have 100 to 130 people without homes.

There are a number of shelters people can turn to for help.

You can reach the Community Caring Council at 573-651-3747.
