Carbondale man charged with reckless homicide after bicyclist hit, killed

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - A Carbondale, Illinois man is accused in the death of a bicyclist.

Seth A. Loyd, 20, is charged with two counts of reckless homicide and two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol.

On Nov. 14 at 3:20 p.m., police say the responded to a report of a traffic crash on East Walnut Street and South Bigler Road.

Police say the driver, Loyd, allegedly left the road and hit a bicyclist.

They say Loyd was the only person in the vehicle and was not injured.

The victim was taken to a Carbondale hospital and was later transferred to a St. Louis, Mo. hospital for treatment of life threatening injuries.

Police say the victim died from the injuries on Nov. 15.

He was arrested and taken to the Jackson County Jail.

Loyd's bond was set at $500,000. He is scheduled to appear Tuesday, November 18, 2014, 1:30 p.m. for a first appearance. 

The investigation is ongoing.
