LYON COUNTY, KY (KFVS) -

The semi cab has been removed from the creek, but the trailer is still in place, after it overturned and closed one eastbound lane of I-24 in Lyon County, according to Keith Todd with Kentucky Transportation Department.

Todd said all livestock have been removed.

As of 4:30 p.m., he said traffic is moving well, with one lane open in each direction. Drivers can expect additional, intermittent closures while removing the trailer over the next two hours.

According to Todd, most of the afternoon traffic has been halted for about an hour, then resumed for about a half hour. He said this process is likely to continue.

Drivers are advised to find an alternate route via KY 93 between Exit 45 and Exit 53.

A recovery crew is expected to be back at the site on Tuesday morning.

Todd said the truck overturned off of a bridge and into a stream at the 52 mile marker on Monday morning.

One eastbound lane was closed and some cattle were reportedly loose in the area.

Todd says crews were working to free about 70 head of cattle that were believed to be trapped in the trailer.

He said there were reports of other crashes in the same area.
