BENTON, IL (KFVS) -

A Missouri sheriff's office bought four wheel drive vehicles in preparation for winter weather events, but is it enough for icy conditions?

Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter says the Scott County sheriff's office bought six vehicles over the past few years with four wheel drive capabilities to better handle the roads with winter weather conditions.

Walter says that it is a good backup to have in those cases they are needed to get to a crash at where there are slick conditions. Walter says they have very rural areas to cover, and and that it's important that deputies are able to get to a scene safely and in a timely manner.

Walter does say that just because you have a four wheel drive vehicle, it doesn't make it safe to travel on icy streets.

"You can have a four wheel drive car but that doesn't mean you can drive like you would in dry normal conditions," the sheriff said. Walter says if you don't have to out, don't go.

Scott County in under a Winter Storm Warning and if conditions become what they expect, the sheriff intends to use their four wheel drive vehicles.
