CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

The FIRST Lego league robotics competition kicked off Saturday at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

Hundreds of people were on hand including several teams of students from middle schools across the region, including St. Louis.

Teams built, test and programmed robots using Legos to solve a set of educated themed missions. This FLL qualifying competition is for children ages 9 through 14.

Students we talk to say this is an exercise where they learned architecture and building with others and educated themselves in engineering.

Some students say this is a great competition to help them boost their interests in a career based in engineering and architecture later in life.
