Carbondale pair sentenced to prison for harassing witness

A Carbondale, Illinois woman and man were sent to prison for harassing of a witness.

According to Jackson County State's Attorney Michael Carr, Deana Luckett, 44, and Elic L. Payne, 26, both of Carbondale, Illinois was convicted in Jackson County Circuit Court on Nov. 13.

Both were sentenced to serve three years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

The defendants will serve a two year period of mandatory supervised release upon their release.

In March of 2014, officers with the Carbondale Police Department investigated a home invasion complaint committed within Carbondale, Illinois.

During that investigation, Richard Nelson, Marquis Sutton and Ariel Mix were arrested and charged with home invasion and robbery.

A witness confirmed that both Payne and Luckett threatened physical harm to her, including death threats.

On August 20, Sutton, Nelson and Mix were convicted of home invasion and were sentenced last month.

Payne and Luckett pleaded guilty to harassment of a witness and were sentenced to the above term in prison.

This investigation was conducted by the Carbondale Police Department. Assistant State's Attorney Casey Bloodworth prosecuted this case.
