PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) -

Crews with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet are preparing for winter weather Sunday through Monday.

KYTC crews in District 1 were coming in at 7 a.m. on Sunday to continue pretreating efforts.

As the forecast has firmed up, the Snow & Ice Team has determined that pretreating is likely to held improve driving conditions as snow moves across the region with likely accumulations of 1 to 2 inches.

Drivers are asked to closely monitor the forecast and changing driving conditions.

They say the forecast indicates a possibility of rain on Sunday afternoon which could then switch over to snow into Monday morning.

Temperatures are expected to drop below freezing at some point overnight on Sunday.

KYTC said pre-treating with brine leaves a fine coating of salt powder that will stick to road surfaces for several days. The salt is then available to be activated by falling precipitation during the early hours of a winter weather event.

Crews loaded trucks before they left work on Friday.
