Union Co. Ambulance receives grant to help buy stair chair

UNION COUNTY, IL (KFVS) -

Union County officials say the ambulance district has received funding from the Illinois Department of Public Health Emergency Medical Assistance Fund.

The $1,300 is for the fiscal year 2015.

Paperwork was submitted in April requesting funding toward the purchase of equipment.

Emergency workers want newer technology built into equipment used to safely transport patients and reduce injuries.

Officials say the money will be used to buy a stair chair, which is used inside the home when it involves large amounts of stairs.

They say it requires less lifting on the part of the employees.

The district says the track system will allow a slow controlled decent in cases of stairs and allows easier movement of the patient in narrow and tight areas of the home.

The $1300 grant will cover approximately half the cost of this new piece of equipment for the Union County Ambulance, according to a news release.
