Nationwide hardware store helps a Marion veteran organization

MARION, IL (KFVS) - Although Veterans Day has passed, a nationwide hardware store is helping support a Marion, Illinois military organization on Wednesday.

Home Depot offered the VFW Post 1301 a $6,000 grant to help with its facility.

Employees of Home Depot, called "Team Depot", came out and went right to work Wednesday morning.

Many of these employees were veterans themselves.

When VFW members found out they received the grant, they said they were excited beyond belief.

“This is a true example of Corporate America giving back to the community and the biggest part is that they're doing this for the veteran community and for that we could never repay them,” VFW commander Mike Gunter said. “We are always forever grateful."

Bill Mouzy, Home Depot store manager states the company sets aside more than 50 million dollars towards veteran organizations over the next five years.

He says helping the VFW Post 1301 in Marion, is very exciting.

“It's just an opportunity to give back to the men and women who mean so much to us as individuals and to our country,” Mouzy said.

The funding will go towards improvements for VFW's banquet facility, roof, plumbing and an office in the building.
