Sheriff: Scott Co. man accused of locking victim in storage shed after fight

SCOTT COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter says a Sikeston man in custody for various charges after a fight.

Joshua Dwane Powell, 23, of rural Sikeston, Missouri has been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm.

Sheriff Walter says deputies were called to County Highway 405 in Scott County, Missouri for a delayed report of a domestic assault on Tuesday.

The victim told deputies she was locked in a storage shed on November 9. According to the sheriff's office, the victim had a small cut under the left eye with slight bruising.

The man told officers there was a physical altercation on Nov. 9. He said that during the fight he pushed the victim to the ground.

Powell told officers he was defending himself and had been hit in the face several times. Powell told officers he was not injured.

Powell was taken into custody and brought to the the Scott County Jail pending the filing of formal charges by the prosecutor.

The deputy saw two guns in the home. Powelll said the guns were heirlooms from a deceased family member. The guns were seized by a deputy, the sheriff's office says Powell is not allowed to have them.

The victim refused to cooperate further in the matter and said she did not want to press charges.

Bond was set by the court at $10,000 cash or surety.
