2 injured in chain-reaction crash after deer hit on I-55 in Cape Co.

CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

Two people suffered minor injuries in a chain-reaction crash on Interstate 55 Sunday evening, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The crash report from MSHP says the first crash happened just before 6:30 p.m. when 21-year-old Jamyra A. Davis of St. Peters, Missouri hit a deer in the road around the 109 mile marker.

Davis was taken to Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau with minor injuries.

A second, chain-reaction crash happened when 21-year-old Carissa L. Bunch of St. Louis ran off the road and hit the cable barrier, according to MSHP.

Bunch's car was then hit in the back by 19-year-old Gregory J. Hapgood of Perryville. Hapgood's car also hit a semi truck, causing minor damage, according to MSHP.

Bunch had minor injuries and was taken to Southeast Hospital.

Troopers say the chain-reaction crash happened because of the first crash in which Davis hit a deer.
