Sheriff: KY man speeding at 105 mph, charged with DUI

Graves County, Kentucky Sheriff Dewayne Redmon says his office investigated an incident Sunday that led to several people, and one juvenile facing charges.

The investigation began when a deputy noticed a vehicle driven by Nicholas A. Ruelas, 22, of Mayfield traveling south on Route 45 just north of Folsomdale.

The deputy checked the vehicle's speed on radar at 105 mph.

According to the sheriff's office, the sheriff's deputy caught up with the vehicle and then initiated a stop.

The vehicle had four males inside and the deputy said he noticed a strong odor of alcoholic beverage and marijuana.

Ruelas was unable to provide the deputy with a license and insurance information.

According to the sheriff's office, Ruelas said he had drunk one alcoholic drink.

Ruelas submitted to a number of field sobriety tests and showed clues on all of them.

He was then placed under arrest.

The deputy found a butterfly knife concealed in a pocket of Ruelas' pants.

After a search, deputies found four opened containers of Bud Light Beer.

They also found seven unopened cans of the beer and a small baggie containing suspected marijuana.

Ruelas faces charges of speeding, four counts of wanton endangerment in the first degree, 4 counts of open alcohol container, operator's license to be in possession, no proof of insurance, carrying concealed deadly weapon and DUI 1st aggravated.

He was taken to Graves County Jail.

A test indicated that his blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit.

Also in the vehicle was a 15-year-old juvenile male.

According to the sheriff, there will be a charge on the juvenile through the court system at a later time.

Also inside the vehicle were Nicklas Christ, 20, of Paducah and Johnathan Flemons, 20, of Paducah. A charge of possession of marijuana will be taken on the two at a later time.
