BENTON, IL (KFVS) - With less than one week until Veterans day, people in Benton, Illinois showed up to honor veteran's service on Friday afternoon.
The Garden Gate Club of Benton hosted the blue star marker dedication this afternoon.
Members of the golden gate club say it is important to honor the past, present and future military men and women.
Veterans say they are very appreciative of the event and serving the military made a lasting impression.
"I served in Vietnam from March of '69 to March of '70 and I've never forgot it. And most veterans never will, but I'm glad to be here" said veteran Terry Crisp.
Local high school students, American Legion and the Illinois department of foreign affairs are just a few of the groups and organizations planning to recognize veterans in the coming days.
