Malden votes "yes" on smoking ban

MALDEN, MO (KFVS) -

Voters in Malden, Mo voted to restrict smoking in public areas within city limits on Tuesday.

It was a tight race, with only 52 percent of people voting "yes".

Malden will be the second southeast Missouri city to have a smoking ban.

City officials said Wednesday, that it will go back in front of the city council for approval of the ban. 

The  city council will discuss and decide when it will go in effect and other related details if approved.

The council meets once a month. Their next meetings are November 17 and December 15.

Kennett implemented smoking restrictions this April.

Smoking in Malden will be prohibited in places like enclosed public places, places of employment, private clubs, with five feet of outdoor playgrounds, within five feet of outside entrances, or operable windows, or ventilation systems, of enclosed areas where smoking is prohibited.
