3 in Jefferson Co., IL accused of stealing signs for prank

JEFFERSON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) -

Three men were arrested after deputies say they stole signs from yards to put in a friend's yard as a prank.

Allen Krahn, 24, from Woodlawn, Bryce Owens, 22, from Bluford and Travis Hopkins, 23, from Waltonville were charged with theft.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, on Nov. 3 around 1:12 a.m. they received a report of suspicious activity on North McCarty Lane.

The complaint indicated a vehicle was parked in front of her home and unknown person was in her driveway. She said she heard a man yell and the vehicle then left, turning westbound on East Angling Road.

As deputies responded to the area, one saw a mailbox on East Angling Road wrapped in saran wrap with playing cards tossed on the ground.

When they continued eastbound, deputies saw a truck parked in the road in front of a home on East Angling Road. They talked to three men, one of the them the owner of the truck, and saw numerous political signs, realty signs and farm seed signs in the bed of the truck.

According to deputies, Krahn, Owens and Hopkins said they were out TPing a friend they had gone to school with.

They said they had stolen the signs out of yards in the rural Bluford area and were going to put the signs in their friend's yard as a prank.

The three men told deputies they did not have a political affiliation.
