McCracken County collision leads to DUI and other charges

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) -

A Calvert City, Kentucky man faces charges after a wreck in McCracken County on Saturday night.

According to the sheriff's office, it happened shortly after 7:40 p.m. in the 6500 block of Benton Road in Paducah.

An investigation showed that Kim S. Joiner, 58, of Calvert City, Kentucky was traveling outbound on Benton Road when, he approached an inbound 1998 Pontiac being driven by Bobby Smith, 19, of Symsonia, Kentucky.

As the two vehicles closed on each other Joiner's vehicle began to drift across the center line toward Smith's vehicle.

In an attempt to avoid colliding head on with the Joiner's vehicle drifting, Smith swerved into the opposing lane. Joiner's vehicle still collided with Smith's, forcing him off the road and into a residents yard.

The sheriff's office says Joiner was found to be driving under the influence and was arrested.

According to the sheriff's office, Kim Joiner was charged with the following:

  • Operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs (aggravated circumstances) 1st offense
  • Wanton endangerment- 1st degree
  • Possession of controlled substance
  • Prescription controlled substance not in proper container 1st offense

The sheriff's office says more charges are pending on Joiner.

Benton Rd. was closed for approximately fifteen minutes for cleanup.
