Crash on I-57 injures two from out of state

MT. VERNON, IL (KFVS) - Crews responded to the scene of a crash involving a semi tractor trailer in Interstate 57 northbound, just north of Exit 95 on Thursday night in Jefferson County, Illinois.

According to the Mt. Vernon Police Department, the crash shut down I-57 northbound, near the Mt. Vernon exit to Illinois 15, after the semi rolled over on the interstate.

Illinois State Police is investigating the crash.

According to ISP the crash happened at mile marker 96 on I-57 northbound around 7:24 p.m.

According to ISP, an investigation shows a driver of a commercial car hauler vehicle from Florida was traveling northbound on Interstate 57, near mile post 96 in Jefferson County. 

The driver lost control of the car and collided with construction zone barrels and the concrete barrier.

After striking the concrete barrier, the tractor caught fire and was consumed. Interstate 57 north was reduced to one lane and I-64 westbound lanes were closed until approximately 1:30 a.m.

A 36-year-old passenger from New York State and the 54-year-old driver from Florida were taken to an area hospital, both with non-life threatening injuries.

Interstate 57 northbound lanes were reduced to one lane and I-64 westbound lanes were closed for a period of time.

Charges are pending after an investigation, according to state police.

    According to the Department of Justice, a Missouri man has been sentenced to prison for possession of a gun by a felon.
