Heartbreaking loss for Portageville softball player after home run cancelled

SPRINGFIELD, MO (KFVS) - It was a heartbreaking ending for the Portageville softball team in the Class 2 State semifinals in Springfield on Friday. 

The team was trailing 1-0 in the 7th inning with two outs when Portageville's Savannah Lovins hit a two-run homer. Portageville player Hanna Cook was on first base. A group was at home plate celebrating the home run when Cook came around the bases.

The first-base umpire ruled that Cook did not step on home plate and the game ended with Pleasant Hope winning 1-0 to advance to the state title game.

    Mookie Betts lined a two-run double off the left-field wall with two outs in the ninth inning, capping a three-run rally that lifted the Boston Red Sox to a 5-4 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday night.
