BENTON, MO (KFVS) -

Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter says a Sikeston, Missouri man is accused of child endangerment.

Dewey Wesley Davidson II, 38, of Sikeston, Missouri was taken into custody by the sheriff's office on Thursday and released Friday on a Criminal Case Summons.

Sheriff Walter says on Thursday a deputy responded to an address on Scott County to assist the Missouri Division of Family Services.

An investigation was started into a reported allegation of an injury to a child.

The sheriff says there was a bruise on the child as reported, and believed the bruise to be consistent with the information provided in a complaint.

Davidson said that he did not strike the child, and would not speak with the deputy further without an attorney, according to the sheriff.

Davidson was taken into custody around 2:40 p.m. and taken to the Scott County Jail.

He was released on a Criminal Case Summons on Friday, October 24.

The court issued the summons with a scheduled appearance of November 19 at 9 a.m. in the Associate Circuit Court Division.

Davidson has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child in the second degree.

The sheriff asks that anyone who has further information regarding this investigation, or any other crime, to contact the Scott County Sheriff's Office at 573-545-3525, or leave a message on the crime tip line at 1-866-210-4322.
