One contact does not fit all

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - If you're one who goes all out for your Halloween costume, decorative contact lenses may be the final touch to your transformation.

But beware, they come with risks.

It may be a simple step to change your brown eyes to resemble the red of a vampire, but decorative contacts can cause serious damage.

They can scratch your cornea and affect your vision, even leading to blindness.

If you don't typically wear contacts, you still need to contact a professional.

Buying online could mean an improper fit and more troubles for you in the long-run.

"The thing that I always try to remember and try to stress to patients about contact lenses is that they are a medical device and without the proper technique for insertion and removal you can look at the possibility of an ocular injury and on top of that you have to make sure the lenses fit each patient well," said optometrist Ryne Wood.

You can buy contact lenses, including decorative ones, from an eye care doctor or from a mail-order company.

Just make sure the company you buy from sells FDA-approved products.
