Sen. Wallingford to receive Vietnam service medals

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS/AP) -

A Missouri lawmaker will receive long overdue service medals during a ceremony in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

According to the Missouri Veterans Commission, a ceremony and reception will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, October 28 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

Larry Kay, Executive Director of the Missouri Veterans Commission will be presenting Senator Wayne Wallingford with his Vietnam Service Medals.

Wallingford is a retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel, having served on active duty for 25 years.

According to the commission, his service included five tours in Vietnam from 1970 to 1973, where he flew more than 300 combat missions, and six tours in Desert Storm.

He earned 47 medals for his service, including the Silver Star (the third-highest honor bestowed by the U.S. military) and Distinguished Flying Cross.

Following the presentation, veterans and guests are invited to visit with the Senator and enjoy refreshments.
