The City of Carbondale Police Department and the SIU Police Department say the Crime Stoppers Crime of the Week is the investigation into the overturned vehicle in the 500 block of South Ash Street on Oct. 18.

Shortly before 11:20 p.m. on Oct. 18, an officer with the Carbondale Police Department saw a large group of people in the 400 block of South Ash Street.

The officer saw the group of people overturn a vehicle parked on the street, which caused extensive damage to the vehicle.

Officers with the Carbondale Police Department along with other police agencies responded to the incident to monitor the large crowd.

Officers estimated the size of the crowd to be around 200 people.

Police say there were a few members of the crowd who began throwing rocks, bottles and full cans of beer in the direction of the officers.

One officer was hit by a bottle, but was not injured.

The majority of the crowd stood by peaceably and simply watched as the tow agency retrieved the overturned vehicle.

Three people were arrested after a crowd flipped a car on its roof early Sunday morning during Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC) students are calling "Unofficial Halloween."

The City of Carbondale Police Department is asking for the public's assistance in providing the identity of any of the individuals involved in this incident.

If you have any information on the people who are responsible for overturning the vehicle, please contact the Carbondale Police Department at 618-457-3200 or Crime Stoppers at (618) 549-COPS (2677).
