CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -
A Southeast Missouri State senior cybersecurity major has been invited to attend a recognition dinner and round table with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) at the White House.
The round table is in Washington, D.C., on Oct. 29.
According to a news release, Kansas City native Joe Surmeier was a part of the Cyber Student Volunteer Initiative Secretary's Honor Program as a student intern last summer.
The university says Surmeier worked in the Intelligence and Analysis office of DHS to help support cybersecurity.
“Being invited to this dinner means a lot to me, more than words can express,” said Surmeier. “I appreciate DHS doing something special for some of their interns, who worked diligently as volunteers over the summer.”
Surmeier is a senior at Southeast and plans to graduate in December 2015.
