Former Royals pitching coach reflects on '85 Championship

MALDEN, MO (KFVS) -

The World Series now shifts to San Francisco for three games. Royals tied the series at 1-1 with some big hits but more importantly, lights out pitching.

That's something former pitching coach Gary Blaylock knows all about.

If you ask Gary Blaylock about the '85 Royals, you are likely to get a smile. He said that team was the culmination of a 45-year career spent in baseball.

Blaylock said he still remembers being in that locker room after they came back to beat the cardinals. He said the '85 Royals and this current bunch were built the same way, pitching and defense.

"But they have  a little bit more of a running game," Blaylock said. "They would probably beat us if we played them because they found a way."

Blaylock said though this royals bullpen is the best he's ever seen. He points to them as a big real for their success in October.

"I'm telling you that's what I call an arm folder," Blaylock said. "You just sit back and fold your arms and say let's get it done and they do it."
