MISSISSIPPI COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - A Mississippi County inmate is facing an additional felony charge after deputies say he was caught trying to coerce a victim to testify falsely on his behalf.

Laterence Antonia Caldwell, 24, of Charleston, Mo., was charged with tampering with a victim in a felony prosecution.

According to Sheriff Keith Moore, the investigation was the result of the facility's monitoring on inmate communications.

He said the jail administrator noticed outgoing mail addressed by Caldwell to the victim in his pending domestic assault case.

The deputy determined the purpose of the letter was to dissuade the victim in Caldwell's pending case from testifying against him at an upcoming court hearing.

Caldwell is in the Mississippi County Detention Center. His bond is set at $50,000.

Sheriff Moore said people convicted of tampering with a victim are not eligible for parole.
