Benton, MO man accused of providing minors pot, alcohol

SCOTT COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - A Benton, Missouri man is facing drug and alcohol charges, according to Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter.

Kevin Ray McWhirter, 40, was charged with two counts of distributing a controlled substance to a minor, possession of up to 35 grams of marijuana and two counts of supplying liquor to a minor.

According to Sheriff Walter, they began a criminal investigation on Monday, Oct. 6 when they received information from Chief Deputy Kenneth Kinder that McWhirter had supplied alcohol and marijuana to juveniles at his home, east of Benton.

On Thursday, Oct. 9, the sheriff said the juveniles were interviewed.

By Tuesday, Oct. 14, he said McWhirter was arrested and taken to the Scott County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff Walter said McWhirter was interviewed and confessed to giving a 15 year old and a 16 year old marijuana. He also confessed to letting them drink alcohol.

McWhirter consented to a search of his home and Sheriff Walter said he told deputies where to find marijuana.

Deputies found the marijuana and seized it as evidence.

McWhirter was taken to the Scott County Jail. His bond was set at $10,000 cash only.
