Fashion show raises money for domestic violence victims

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - The Safe House for Women is available to help domestic violence victims 24 hours a day, seven days a week, but they need your help to continue to offer that assistance.

October is Domestic Awareness Month and during their regular meeting.

Safe House board members heard from domestic violence survivors.

The guest speakers on Tuesday endured domestic violence for 12 years before she broke the cycle.

"Once an abuser, always an abuser, because once they start hitting you they never stop," Leslie Washington, abuse victim, said. "They can promise you, 'oh, I'm sorry. It'll never happen again.' But once they do with her one time and it never changes."

So, how can you help?

One way is to attend the Vintage Now Fashion Show at the Osage Centre in Cape Girardeau, Mo. on Friday night, Oct. 14. This year it's highlighting fashions from the '50s, with a modern twist.

The doors open at 6 p.m. and you can get tickets at the Safe House Thrift Shop or by clicking here.
