Officers responded to a suspicious vehicle fire on Town Creed Road, just south of Murphysboro at 3:40 p.m. on Tuesday, according to the Jackson County Sheriff's Office.

Three people were in the car.

Two people were treated at the scene. The sheriff's office said one of them was charged and is currently in the Jackson County Jail.

The third person had serious burns and was taken to a Murphysboro hospital, then later transferred to a St. Louis hospital.
