MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) -

A McCracken County, Kentucky man was arrested in connection with a fraudulent use of a credit card.

Walter J. Shults, 32, was charged with fraudulent use of a credit card under $500.

According to the McCracken County Sheriff's Department, on Oct. 10, a woman reported her credit card had been stolen and used at a local convenience store.

The woman told deputies she stopped at the convenience store and made a purchase on Oct. 9. When she checked her bank statement on Oct. 10, she said she discovered an unauthorized charge on her debit card, which happened an hour after she left the store on Oct. 9.

Deputies went to the store and looked at the video surveillance.

They say it showed the woman leaving the debit card on the counter after she made a purchase.

A short time later, they say the clerk, Shults, was seen picking up the debit card and placing it beside the cash register. About an hour later, they say Shults was seen swiping the card at the cash register.

While deputies were at the store, Shults came in and was questioned about the incident.

According to deputies, Shults used the debit card to cover up a $52.56 gas drive-off that happened earlier that morning. They say he used the debit card because he didn't want to pay for the loss and possibly lose his job.
