SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) -

Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter says a Sikeston, Missouri man is facing drug charges.

Janeil Hatchett, 21, was charged with misdemeanor of resisting arrest and possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.

According to Sheriff Walter, on Monday, Oct. 13, around 12:11 a.m., a deputy saw a vehicle sitting in the middle of the road on State Highway U in Scott County.

The deputy passed the vehicle and turned around to try to get behind it.

Walter said the vehicle started moving and then made a u-turn in the road, appearing to speed up quickly. It then turned onto Scott County Highway 425, accelerating even more.

He said the vehicle turned onto Queen Road without a turn signal and the deputy pulled it over.

The deputy identified the driver as Hatchett.

According to Sheriff Walter, the deputy noticed the odor of marijuana.

After speaking to Hatchett, the deputy searched the vehicle and found 60 grams of marijuana and $4,200 in $10, $20 and $100 bills.

The deputy also found 44 small zip lock-type plastic baggies, a marijuana grinder and a "High Times" magazine.
