Storms cause damage in Bollinger Co. & Morehouse, MO

(KFVS) - Storms caused damaged in several parts of the Heartland on Monday. Damage was reported in Bollinger County, Morehouse, Hayti, and Paducah, Ky. See storm damage pictures from across the Heartland on cNews

Storm damage

Crews in Paducah, Ky. are working to repair power lines after several trees fell in the area. A Paducah man told us he watched the storm take down a tree right across from his house, but overall, he feels pretty lucky.

We're also told the storms tore shingles off of roofs all over the Heartland.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet reports water over the road in Calloway County.

  • KY 464/Backusburg Road has water over the road between the 4 and 6 mile marker in the Kirksey area. This is near the intersection with KY 299.
  • KY 783/Crossland Road has water over the road at about the 1 mile marker. This is in the Farley Branch area near Ellis Lane.
KYTC said their Calloway Co. crews report that these are areas that have rarely flooded in the past. They report concentrated areas of heavy rain contributing to the flooding. Drivers are asked to use caution through the night as concentrated areas of heavy rain are expected to continue through the night and into Tuesday morning.

The Morehouse, MO Police Department says a tree fell during a storm and landed on a home and two cars. Both vehicles were totaled and the home had damage mainly on the corner. The home is located on North Bate Street. No one was injured.

In Greenbriar, a carport collapsed on top of a truck and an entire barn was blown away on the same property. The owners say the metal from the barn is now spread over a quarter-of-a-mile. No one at the house was hurt.

According to the Bollinger County EMA Jim Bollinger, damage throughout the southern half of Bollinger County. Power lines down across Highway C between Arab and Advance. Farm buildings moved due to the storm and trees across several roads. He said crews are out assessing damage.

The National Weather Service in Memphis, Tenn. is reporting damage to a structure on B Johnson Rd., about 5 miles NNE of Samburg in Obion County. They say there are no injuries reported.

5:02 p.m. - Power lines and trees down southwest of Morganfield in Union, Ky.

4:57 p.m. - Estimated 60+ mph wind gust in Shawneetown, Gallatin County, Ill.

4:30 p.m. - Power lines down near Oregon Farms in McLeansboro, Hamilton County, Ill.

3:40 p.m. - Report of roof damage at intersection of 12th Street and Madison in McCracken County. Semi-tractor damaged at Exit 4. Downed power lines and outages reported along Lovelaceville Road.

3:32 p.m. - Downed power lines along Woodville Road in western McCracken County.

3:25 p.m. - Downed trees and power lines reported in La Center, KY

3:25 p.m. - Trees down and road blockage reported east of Wickliffe, KY.

3:05 p.m. - Downed trees and 4 snapped power lines at ground level and are across Hootowl Lane in Jackson County, IL.

2:20 p.m. - Trees down along Hwy. 34 east of Marble Hill

2:05 p.m. - Greenbrier, MO - Law enforcement received reports of widespread tree damage and power lines down across the southern portion of the county near the communities of Greenbrier and Zalma. Some roads blocked and some minor roof damage reported.

1 p.m. - Qulin, MO - rain wrapped funnel reported by the public

Power outages

Ameren MO is reporting the following customers without power as of 5:30 p.m.: 

  • Mississippi County - 1
  • Stoddard County - 4
As of 5:30 p.m., Ameren IL is reporting the following customers without power:\
  • Franklin County - 2
  • Jackson County - 358
  • Jefferson County - 3
  • Perry County - 40
  • Williamson County - 192

Black River Electric Cooperative 

  • Bollinger and Wayne counties - just under 100 outages
According to Egyptian Electric, four pole are broken on Ava Road in Jackson County, Ill. They say 200 members are without power in this area. Crews are working to restore power.

SEMO Electric Cooperative said they currently have outages in the Wyatt area. Crews are working to restore power. They say there were some outages in the Lilbourne area, but have since been restored.

According to the Ozark Border Electric Cooperative, they did have 1,675 without power, but have since restored some. There are currently 810 without power, mostly in the area north and east of Puxico, Mo. Crews are working to completely restore power. They say it should be back on before too long.

The Dunklin Pemiscot Electric Cooperative say there were 40 outages, but they have since been restored. They say there is a pole down in Cardwell, Mo., but that it shouldn't cause any outages. A crews is on the way to fix it.

According to Paducah Power, trees are down on Martin Luther King Dr. in Paducah. Outages are reported in that area. A tree is down on Joe Clifton Drive in Padacah with outages in that area. One line is down on Lovelaceville Road in Paducah also.
