MISSISSIPPI COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - A man is facing several charges, including first-degree murder, after his wife's body was found in Mississippi County, Missouri on Sunday.

The Mississippi County coroner said foul play was suspected after Sylvia Tipler's body was found in a rural part of northeastern Mississippi County at Moore's Landing.

According to court documents, Clifford Williams Sr. and Tipler got into a fight in a vehicle. Then, Tipler died during the fight.

Blood stains were found in the vehicle that Williams and Tipler were in. Williams told authorities he hit Tipler with something from the car but didn't state exactly what it was, according to the probable cause statement.

Williams also said he blacked out and that something bad had happened. As investigators questioned William about Tipler's injuries, Williams said that she had a knife and that he knocked it out of her hand. Williams said that after Tipler was dead, he put her body into some weeds and left.

He later returned the vehicle back to Tipler's mother with blood still in it. Before Willliams turned himself into police, he told his son where Tipler's body was located.

Tipler had been missing since Wednesday, Oct. 8 and was last seen in Ullin, Illinois with Williams.

According to Mississippi County Deputy Sheriff Cory Hutcheson, Williams has been charged with first-degree murder, armed criminal action and abandonment of a corpse. Hutcheson says Williams is currently being held without bond.

Mississippi County Coroner Terry Parker says autopsy results are complete. A preliminary autopsy reveals blunt force trauma contributed to Tipler's death.

Williams will be in court on Wednesday for an arraignment at the Mississippi County Courthouse.
