Third graders learn about careers, helping the community

SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) -

Third graders at Matthews Elementary in Sikeston are learning about different careers and how important it is to help their community.

Reporters Kadee Brosseau and Nichole Cartmell from KFVS 12 talked with about 90 students Friday about their jobs.

Every Friday, teachers invite a guest from the community as a part of their “Community Helpers” unit in social studies.

The kids are learning a lot and many already have a good idea of what their future will look like.

"When I grow up I want to be a kids' illustrator, drawing the pictures and making the characters,” Annabelle said.

"When I grow up I want to be an engineer. I like crafting and I like building,” Leo said.

Teachers say far they've had a farmer, a librarian, and a state highway patrol officer visits their classes.
