CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Cape Central High School is easing the college application process for its high school seniors.

Cape Central is one of 57 Missouri high schools that are apart of a program that provides seniors one-on-one help filling out college forms.

The program is sponsored by the state department of higher education, sending volunteers with college advising experience to talk with students during the Missouri College Application week later this month.

But at Cape Central High School, there's also another option available.

It's called Career Readiness, a semester long program dedicated to seniors and preparing them for college before their winter break starts.

"They spend the entire semester looking at careers, researching colleges and researching scholarships." Theresa Taylor, College Readiness teacher, said.

This fall, 74 seniors have signed up and students like Alexis Summers and Austin Wiant say this class is preparing them for the real world.

"I think it's great," Summers said. "It's given me 45 minutes everyday to really think about college and get myself ready for going to college."

Austin Wiant, Cape Central senior, said if it weren't for College Career Readiness, he probably would've applied to college much later.

"If I didn't have this class, I would probably put it off until May," he said.

Theresa Taylor said she expects the classes to be larger next fall, providing all different aspects of college life.
