Homicide investigation after woman found burned in Williamson Co. home

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - Police are investigating a mysterious death in Williamson County as a homicide.

Investigators released more information  at a press conference Thursday morning.

It all started Sept. 6 when Lake of Egypt fire crews responded to a house fire at a home on south McGeesville Road in rural Williamson County.

Only one wall of the home was left standing, the rest of the home completely destroyed. In the course of the investigation, crews discovered the body of Lisa Uzzle, 53, in the rubble.

Her body was destroyed beyond all recognition. An autopsy conducted the following day revealed few clues to either her identity or the exact cause of death. DNA from family members was used to identify her.

Uzzle was a United States postal carrier.

Uzzle died as a result of multiple gun shot wounds. Police believe she was killed before the fire.

The cause of the fire is still undetermined and it is unclear how long Uzzle was dead and when the fire started.

Investigators are not commenting on whether a gun was found inside the charred home, what type of gun was used, or how many times Uzzle was shot.
