Man arrested after firing warning shot to scare thieves

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

One man was arrested after shooting a warning shot in the air when thieves stole tire rims in Cape Girardeau's south side.

According Cape Girardeau Police Sergeant Estes, officers responded to the 600 block of South Ellis Street where shots were fired around 8:40 p.m. Tuesday.

No one was injured, and so far no property damage has been reported.

Corporal Darin Hickey says a man in the 600 block of South Ellis told officers two males were stealing his property. He got a gun and fired a warning shot in the air to scare them off, according to Hickey.

Police arrested the man for discharging a firearm in city limits.

Police are still investigating the theft of tire rims.

Police are looking for two black males described as wearing black shorts and white shoes running from the scene.
