Program aims to fight physical, emotional toll on cancer patients

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Cancer takes a toll on patients both physically and emotionally and a Heartland program aims at fighting both.

Turning Point has been around for 10 years now.

It's a free program that brings women battling breast cancer together once a week to talk about what they are going through with each other.

It focuses on healing for the mind; body and spirit, which some organizers say is crucial.

"When they are first dealing with the diagnosis, they feel alone," Paula Stout with Turning Point said. "They feel like they don't know the answers. They don't know what treatment they want to go through. This is a way they can get together with other ladies going through a shared experience."

Participants also receive a six-month membership to Health Point Fitness and personal fitness assessments. The goal being to keep women active.
