Cape Girardeau chamber endorses continuation of fire tax

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

The Board of Directors of the Cape Girardeau Area Chamber of Commerce voted unanimously to endorse the continuation of the fire tax.

The board also encourages Cape Girardeau voters to vote yes on Tuesday, Nov. 4.

"The board reviewed the proposal and emphatically supports the continuation of the fire tax," said John Mehner, president and CEO of the Cape Girardeau Area Chamber of Commerce. "The revenue from this critical vote will continue to provide the necessary tools, equipment and facilities."

They say the fire tax proposal is estimated to bring in $1.2 million annually and evenly distributed to support equipment upgrades ($600,000) and facilitate improvements/additions ($600,000).
