Mt. Vernon police investigating house that was shot

MT. VERNON, IL (KFVS) - The Mt. Vernon Police Department is investigating after a house was shot several times Tuesday just before noon.

The call came in at 11:51 a.m. for shots fired in the 400 block of South 17th Street.

Heartland News spoke to the home owner, Tracy McDaniels, who said she was at work when the incident occurred.

McDaniels said her son and grandchild were in the home at the time of the incident. Neither were injured.

A home in the area was struck several times, but no one was injured.

“For what reason? Don't know," McDaniels said. "Somebody could have lost their life.”

McDaniels said another home just blocks from her house had been shot at three weeks prior to this incident.

“Only a coward would do something like that, shoot and run," McDaniels said.

Mt. Vernon Police are investigating the incident.
