CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) -

Nearly a hundred parolees gathered at the Hopewell Baptist Church in Carbondale, Illinois for A Summit of Hope event to get help getting back on track in life.

This nationwide event is designed to provide a one-stop environment for local parolee's to get the necessary assistance to move past barriers which may prevent them from leading a successful life.

Parolees took advantage of services such as Government assistance, health, employment, transportation, child support, employment and more were offered here.

Parolees we spoke with say it is very difficult to get back on track after you have served your time in jail.

One parolee says that it feels that employers look down at you and you aren't given a fair opportunity even though you served your time for the crime committed. A parolee says that it's necessary to find a job and provide for my family and after getting out of jail, it's hard getting back on track.

Another parolee says that it's rough just trying to get a license and social security card and this event helps getting his feet back on track to help him and his children.

This community expo is a joint effort of Illinois Department of Corrections District 5 Parolee Office, Jackson County Health Department and Treatment Alternatives for a Safe Community.
