Southern Illinois hosts Oral Cancer Awarness Walk

On Sunday, a group of more than 40 people walked just over two miles around Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC) campus to raise awareness about Oral Cancer.

This was the inaugural walk to highlight the issue, hosted by the Oral Cancer Association of Southern Illinois.

The group also provided free oral cancer screenings.

Oral cancer survivors joined in along with the SIUC Men's Baseball team.

Event organizers say they were happy with the turnout.

"We've had people just step up and help out." co-organizer Jennifer Sherry said. We've had donations, it's just been fantastic."

Sherry says the group will host a similar walk again next year.
