CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - More and more travelers are getting a homey feeling by renting out someone else's house.

Sites like VRBO and Airbnb allow traveler to skip the hotel and rent out a private room, an apartment or even an entire house.

These rentals are available in the Heartland.

Four downtown apartments are available for rent at a nightly rate in Cape Girardeau and more than 20 are in Carbondale.

The Cape Girardeau Convention and Visitors Bureau said travelers typically have a variety of needs.

"Is it really, you're here for a sports game or a team and you need to get in and out? Or do you want to relax more, get more of the atmosphere of the town you're in, that kind of thing," Director of Public Relations Stacy Dohogne Lane said.

Cara Nager, an entrepreneur for Clemco Contracting and Development rents out an executive suite in Cape Girardeau for those looking for a temporary stay.

She said the rentals are like a home away from home.

"You feel like you're stepping into a home," Naeger said. "You still have the amenities of the key card access. We've got a 24-hour gym. We've got a lot of the hotel amenities but without the big parking lot, concierge. It's just very homey, unique, just a different experience."

Nager said the market for these rentals is driven by what is going on in town.

She said at one time filming crews for "Gone Girl" rented out their space.

However, Nager said it is an option that is attracting all types of people.

"We allow executives to come in either for a couple of days, whether it for an event or it maybe a few months that they need to stay here," Nager said. "And it ranges from the doctors and the nurses to the families that come in for a special event."
