Southeast MO State University prepares for big Homecoming crowd

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Southeast Missouri State University and Cape Girardeau are ready for Homecoming.

A quick start to the season by the football team has given a new spark to the home town crowd.

And that will be evident at Houck Stadium Saturday where officials expect a sold-out game.

Events for Homecoming kicked off Friday on Southeast's campus.

A special scholarship reception welcomed more than 500 guests at the Show Me Center.

But Saturday comes the parade and of course the football game against Tennessee State University at 1 p.m.

The weekend generates money for the school and city, but it also helps create lasting relationships on campus.

"Homecoming is a chance for us to connect the past to the present and the future," said Southeast Director of Alumni Relation Jay Wolz.
"And it's an opportunity for our alumni to come back and relive those moments and reconnect with fellow classmates and professors and faculty and staff and just the community itself. It's an opportunity also for our students to meet our alums and it sort of transcends the traditions from generation to generation."

An opportunity just around the corner for other institutions in the Heartland.

Murray State Racers are invited to return home next weekend to celebrate.

Homecoming at SIU runs October 20th-25th.
