CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

The stars were out for the very first screening of "Gone Girl" in Cape Girardeau on Thursday, Oct. 2.

It was a red carpet event with a media wall and mock press.

Crews shot the movie about a year ago and fans said they were so excited to see it debut on the big screen.

"I just wanted to come and see all the scenery, see the bridge, see the downtown area, wanted to scope out, I have a lot of friends that were in it and I want to see if I can see them," movie goer Lori Trepasso said.

"All the scenes I was there for. I was there for 90 percent of them," Tina Medlock said. "So I can't wait to see all the scenes that were shot."

Fans said all the movie madness is great for Cape Girardeau.

"We were thrilled to have the movie here, and we are thrilled to have it shot here, and we are thrilled to have it premiering here," Trepasso said. "We're thrilled about it. It's fabulous for Cape."

However, the big question is if extras in the filming process will be in the movie.

"I am excited to see the movie, just the movie in general," Brenda Newbern said. "But I am going to look for me. I may be in the background of when they were yelling 'Ben where's your wife, where's your wife.'"

There were more than 1400 extras in the movie. In a theater filled with extras, there were several times when someone would say, "That's me!" There were also several times when the crowds erupted in applause as scenes of Cape filled the screen.

The movie infused $7 million to the Missouri economy.

Cape West 14 Cine Box Office manager Paige Bomar said the theater sold out nine showings of the movie.
