CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - "Gone Girl" will premier for the first time in the Heartland on Thursday, but some got a sneak peak a year ago when they got to watch the filming right out their window.

Cape Girardeau residents say it was like nothing they've ever seen.

"How David Fincher worked, it was fascinating, how he would take a scene and mold it from start to finish it would start out looking one way and then by the end of 50 takes or however many takes he did," Cindy Berry said. "It was just very very interesting to see the transformation."

Berry spent a lot of time watching from across the street as crews filmed where Nick and Amy live in the movie.

Berry said her home was even staged for a few shots.

Diane Hawn lived just a few houses down from where scenes were shot of Nick's sister Go's home.

She said it is something she'll never forget.

"It was so exciting," Hawn said. "The whole neighborhood was just crazy. Everyday was like that. There was always something going on and when they all left it was just so dead... I've cut out every article. I'm making a book about it. I'm crazy about it."

Scenes of the movie were also filmed at Arena Park.

Owner Bryan Johnson said it was surreal when crews came in with all their lights, props and cameras.

Johnson said he was told the scene shot at his putt-putt course was a pivotal moment in the book and he's hoping to see it actually make it on to the big screen.

Johnson said it would likely mean good business for him.

"It's definitely a feather in your cap and something you can use for sure," Johnson said. "... to bring people into Cape that may have never been to Cape before and bring in clientele that we may have never received without the movie. So it's pretty exciting time and we look forward to the premier Thursday night."
