Kingshighway back open after SUV fire in Cape Girardeau

A Chevy blazer was traveling north on Kingshighway and stopped at the red light. A passenger told the driver that his car was on fire, according to Cape Girardeau Fire Department. CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - A vehicle fire shut down lanes of Kingshighway and Mt. Auburn in Cape Girardeau Tuesday afternoon.

Cape Girardeau firefighters responded to a vehicle fire at 12:42 p.m. at the intersection of N. Kingshighway and Mount Auburn. 


A Chevy blazer was traveling north on Kingshighway and stopped at the red light. A passenger told the driver that his car was on fire, according to Cape Girardeau Fire Department.

The driver and passenger exited the vehicle safely. The fire scorched the engine compartment. 


Fire crews responded and put the fire out while Cape Girardeau police directed traffic.

One northbound lane and the left-hand turning lane were shut down as crews were on scene putting out the flames.

The Blazer was towed away and the lanes reopened around 1:15 p.m.
