'Gone Girl' movie craze in full swing

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - The final numbers aren't out but the Cape Girardeau Visitor's Bureau estimate the economic impact at $7 to 8 million for Cape Girardeau.

Thousands auditioned and, come Thursday, they will have an answer. Kevin Dillion, the general manager over at Cape West 14 Cine, said they have been preparing for this week for months.

"I like to call it organize chaos," Dillion said. "We actually had people calling 5 months ago right after the film was done with the production here in town wanting to know if they could buy tickets yet and we don't sell them quite that far in advance."

Dillion said he's worked at the theater for 29 years and this movie ranks at the top of his list for local excitement.

"We have I think 20 tickets left as of an hour or so ago," Jennifer Gast said.

Gast saw the "Gone Girl" madness as an opportunity for a fundraiser. Her organization, Student Santas, bought up an entire show.

"All proceeds will go to Student Santas which will be just giving back to children in this area in terms of buying them for coats, clothes, toys for Christmas time," Gast said.

The box office said plenty of tickets for opening weekend still remain and Gast said she has about 20 tickets left.
