Vehicle rollover in Carbondale, driver arrested after fleeing scene

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - A vehicle rolled over after colliding with another vehicle and hitting a cemetery fence on Main Street in Carbondale, Illinois just before 6:30 p.m. on Monday.

One of the drivers ran from the scene, according to Carbondale Police Lieutenant Mat Dunning. It is believed that the drive ran because he did not have a valid drivers license.

That driver has since been arrested for fleeing a scene of an accident and for operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver's license, Dunning said.

No injuries were reported at the time of the crash, Dunning said.

The two vehicles collided sending one of the vehicles up onto a sidewalk and into a cemetery fence. The vehicle then flipped over.

Traffic was backed up on Main Street for 45 minutes after the crash.

Carbondale Police, Jackson County EMS and the Carbondale Fire Department responded to the call.

This is the second area vehicle rollover to happen Monday. Another vehicle rolled over in Herrin, Ill. just after 2 p.m. on Monday.
